It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

Charles Schulz is best known for his cute Peanut cartoon characters.  The kids take a look at Linus and Lucy out in the pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin. The 1st graders draw pumpkins in one point perspective.

OBJECTIVE/ASSESSMENT
​OBJECTIVE:
​Students will:
​- be introduced art vocabulary -radial symmetry, one point perspective, pumpkins. scale, big/small, line of horizon, vanishing point.
- learn how to make varied tints and shades of a color
​RUBRICS:
​Students will be graded by completion.
​MATERIALS & PROCEDURES
white construction paper (12"x18")
pencils
fine sharpie markers
watercolor
PROCEDURES:
Classroom discussion about what a pumpkin patch. Farmers grow vegetables/pumpkins in rows (Sweet Berry Farm).  Students are asked if they've seen It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Students are shown a youtube clip of Linus in the pumpkin patch with Sally. Students draw a line of horizon across the paper. Draw a point in the middle of the horizontal line. Draw diagonal lines to the corners, vertical line to the middle of the bottom of the paper. Draw diagonal lines in between.  Students draw the first pumpkin at the bottom of the paper. Draw a football. Two crescent moons on both sides. Two bananas on either side of those and then a stem on top.  Students draw a smaller pumpkin directly above. Repeat/getting smaller every time until you reach the vanishing point. Repeat on each line.  A scarecrow is drawn above the vanishing point.  Draw fence posts and diagonal lines on both sides of the pumpkin patch.
